Israel - Update

Just a quick update on the coming Israeli election; Ehud Barak has announced he plans to start a new party, and it is already polling above the threshold. The most recent poll shows the following result (which includes the re-formation of the arab Joint List)

32 - Likud & Kulanu
32 - Blue & White
12 - Joint List
7 - Yisrael Beiteinu
6 - Ehud Barak's new Party
6 - UTJ
6 - Shas
6 - Meretz
5 - Labour
4 - United Right
4 - New Right

In sum, this is as follows:

52 - Conservatives
49 - Progressives
12 - Arabs
7 - Avigdor Lieberman

this would make any coalition difficult, however, not impossible.

  1. Between loses to B&W and now Barak's party, Labour is in real risk of falling below the threshold. They are likely to try and fuse lists with one of those parties or with Meretz.

  2. Also with Otzma Yehudit (the Kahanists) leaving United Right, UR may not past threshold either.
